A. Listening comprehension

A. In the article about ‘Exotic London’ on page 27 of English Now No 87, there is a mention about Calypso music from Trinidad and Tobago, which fills the streets of London during the carnival. One of the most famous Calypso music artists, Calypso Rose, has just released an album, in May 2016. Listen to the song ‘Calypso Queen’ from her last album and try to recognise the words, behind Calypso Rose’s Caribbean accent. Then, go to part B to watch the video with the lyrics and enjoy the exotic music.

The one and only calypso
No man, alive or
Could come and take the crown off my

I don’t worry about
They been trying to take me down
But to the end I retain my

Chorus

They used to call me small girl
And now I travel the
Anywhere they go, they know
I am Calypso Rose Queen of

I am the daughter of a warrior
No time to rest or
Others have come and gone
But Calypso Rose is still on
